    Description

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Copy edit NJ Spotlight News digital content including daily news stories, video summaries, op-eds and social media posts as needed
    • Write compelling, SEO-based headlines and subheads in conjunction with Managing Editor
    • Create, design and schedule content pages in WordPress CMS with an eye to design best practices and SEO
    • Source/select photos, graphics and adapt or create images with Adobe Photoshop
    • Liaise with broadcast/social platform colleagues regarding photos, graphics, video, social media etc.
    • Use basic HTML to fix intermittent content-rendering issues in WordPress and troubleshoot technical issues with WNET technical personnel
    • Join in resolution of occasional legal issues regarding content, usually at behest of managing editor and general counsel
    • Handle audio and video files for inclusion in some stories, downloading from YouTube or retrieving embed codes, etc.
    • Other relevant duties, as assigned.

    Qualifications: Qualified candidates will possess strong strategic thinking skills as well as the ability to handle pressure and function under tight deadlines. Other qualifications include:

    • Minimum 7 years of related experience, including 5+ years previous news producing or web producing experience at a news organization;
    • Proven ability to write feature stories in a journalistic voice;
    • Ability to use outside-the-box thinking to create engaging digital content;
    • Familiarity with social media management.
