CUFFH organizes our working-class BIPOC communities around issues of housing, immigration, social, and economic justice to generate power and harness true liberation.

    Overview:

The Community Organizer builds tenant power to fight displacement, improve housing conditions, and win long-term solutions to the housing crisis. This role centers on organizing tenants across rent-stabilized, subsidized, and other targeted buildings, developing grassroots leadership, launching tenant associations, and advancing tenant-led campaigns. • Organize and support regular tenant meetings to develop shared demands, build strategy, and take collective action.
      • Lead weekly canvassing operations—including door-knocking and outreach in buildings.
      • Train tenant leaders and volunteers to engage residents, track issues, and sustain tenant associations.
      • Coordinate and lead special weekend community canvasses around campaigns or building crises.
    2. Campaign Development and Advocacy (30%)
      • Co-develop tenant-led campaigns focused on repairs, rent justice, anti-harassment, or displacement protections.
      • Coordinate strategic actions such as rallies, press conferences, and visits to legislators.
      • Coach tenants to speak to the media, testify at hearings, and advocate directly with officials.
      • Participate in coalitions and collaborate with allied housing justice organizations.
      • Support documentation, storytelling, and campaign materials grounded in tenant experiences.
    3. Tenant-Led Housing Justice Projects (15%)
      • Coordinate at least three tenant-driven housing justice projects per year (e.g., new tenant associations, campaigns for repairs, code enforcement).
      • Build partnerships with legal service providers, housing advocates, and grassroots groups.
      • Mobilize tenants to co-lead project planning, implementation, and advocacy.
