    LOCATION: Remote

    COMPENSATION: $88,000 - $95,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.     JOB DESCRIPTION

    The Director of Finance, as a member of the Leadership Team, works to align strategic goals with fiscal planning, budgeting, and ongoing management. The Finance Director is responsible for accounting functions and the production of monthly and quarterly financial statements, preparation and monitoring of the operating budget, and financial forecasting. The Finance Director works closely with Program Directors and the Resource Development Director to ensure reporting and invoicing is completed in a timely and accurate manner. The Finance Director interfaces with the auditors and has primary responsibility for overseeing the audit process and annual filings.

    PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Serves as chief financial officer of the organization, participating in the Leadership Team, and responsible for accounting, reporting and compliance in alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
    2. Liaison to the Board Finance Committee for the presentation of periodic financial statements.
    3. Supervises the Administration and Finance Specialist.
    4. Oversees accounting and financial reporting functions, monthly reconciliation, and oversight of transactions including grants, contracts, loans and other forms of payables and receivables.
    5. In collaboration with the Executive Director, oversees the development and implementation of the annual operating budget in accordance with the strategic plan.
    6. Collaborates with Resource Development Director in the development of federal and foundation grant proposals and in ongoing grant management in compliance with with grant requirements.
    7. Cash management.
    8. Oversees reporting and management of Fiscal Sponsorships.
    9. Leeds the implementation, evaluation and integrity of financial systems, policies and procedures to ensure accurate and compliant financial accounting, financial controls and organizational efficiency, effectiveness and stability.
    10. Oversees the annual audit and filings and is the liaison with the independent auditor for all such annual reports and tax filings.
    11. Performs financial planning, forecasting and modeling for evaluation of new programs and services or changes in business operations.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s Degree and/or equivalent experience with non-profit accounting.
    • Minimum of five years’ experience in financial management including experience in accounting system design, analysis, and implementation. Strong knowledge of non-profit fiscal management, general business practices and GAAP.
    • Computer skills, including Google Suite, advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and enterprise accounting systems. Working knowledge of Sage Intact and ADP Workforce Now desired.
    • Ability to convey financial information to non-financial audiences.
    • Enthusiasm for cooperative economics and participatory management principles.

    Knowledge Skills/Abilities

    • Experience with Federal, State and Foundation grant reporting.
    • Experience with budgeting and strategic planning processes in a nonprofit environment.
    • Ability to think critically and solve problems and work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
    • Ability to translate financial data into actionable information.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Knowledge of cooperatives and cooperative accounting is a plus
    • Enthusiasm for communicating with novice colleagues, Board members and clients on financial topics and skills.
    • Consistent exercise of professional discretion and independent judgment
    • Effective time management skills and ability to pivot for shifting priorities.
    • Ability to travel as needed
