    About the role

United Way Bay Area (UWBA) is seeking a dynamic and motivated grants fundraiser to advance our mission to end poverty in the Bay Area. The Senior Manager will manage a portfolio of institutional funders—primarily local government partners—through all stages of the grants cycle: prospecting, cultivation, proposal writing, reporting, and stewardship.

This role is heavily focused on grant writing and relationship management and will play a key part in expanding UWBA’s donor base while strengthening existing partnerships. The Senior Manager collaborates closely with Development, Finance, Marketing, and Community Impact teams to ensure timely, accurate proposals and reports that advance UWBA’s mission.

The ideal candidate is a skilled grant writer, detail-oriented project manager, and strong relationship-builder who thrives in a fast-paced, goal-driven environment.

    What you'll do

    • Manage and grow a portfolio of institutional donors (government, corporate, and foundations)
    • Lead proposal and report writing, budget development, and donor stewardship
    • Prospect and research new funding opportunities
    • Partner with internal teams to deliver on grant requirements and reporting
    • Track deliverables, deadlines, and progress in Salesforce

    Qualifications

    • 4–7+ years nonprofit grant writing and donor management experience
    • Exceptional writing, communication, and project management skills
    • Proven success building and stewarding funder relationships
    • Experience with Salesforce (preferred) and strong digital literacy
    • Commitment to UWBA’s values of equity, inclusion, and community impact
    • Willing and able to travel throughout the Bay Area for meetings and events, including occasional evening and weekend engagements.

This position is covered under a collective bargaining agreement and is represented by OPEIU, Local 29.
