    Description

    Overview: Join our dynamic team as an After-School Instructor and make a positive impact on the lives of children in our community. We are seeking enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about education and have experience working with elementary school-aged students.

    Responsibilities:

    1. Plan and Execute Engaging Activities: Develop and implement structured and age-appropriate activities in areas such as arts and crafts, performing arts, music, STEM, academic enrichment, sports, and games. We are hiring in all of these areas - get creative and let us know where you'd shine!
    2. Supervise and Support Students: Ensure the safety and well-being of all students during program hours. Provide guidance and encouragement to help students succeed and build confidence.
    3. Maintain Communication: Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, and school staff regarding student progress/behavior.
    4. Create a Positive Learning Environment: Foster a supportive and inclusive atmosphere where students feel comfortable and motivated to learn and explore new activities.
    5. Manage Resources: Organize and maintain materials and equipment necessary for activities, ensuring they are in good condition and ready for use.

    Requirements:

    • Experience working with children in an educational or recreational setting preferred.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
    • High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in education, child development, or related fields is a plus.
    • First aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).

    Schedule:

    • Part-time position, Mondays and Fridays from 2:15 PM to 5:15 PM during the school year.
    • Additional hours/days available as an Assistant Teacher with our program.
    • Additional hours may be available during school holidays.

    116Kids is an after-school program for all students in grades preK-5th grade at PS116 in midtown Manhattan. We provide a fun, safe space of inclusion, respect, and belonging for all of our students. Our staff all have experience with and a love for working with children. Some are teachers at PS116, or studying to become teachers. Others are professional visual artists, actors, musicians, and dancers. With 116Kids, parents can be confident that their children are learning and playing in a space where they are seen, heard, and valued after-school every day that PS116 is in session.
