    Job Summary

    The Associate Clinician (ASW, AMFT, or APCC) is a key clinical leader at the San Joaquin Pride Center (SJPC), supporting the agency’s LGBTQ+ counseling and MSW intern training programs under the supervision of a licensed LCSW. This position is designed for dedicated, equity-focused associate-level clinicians with a passion for providing affirming care and expanding access to mental health and wraparound services for the LGBTQ+ community in San Joaquin County.

    Associates in this role will receive weekly clinical supervision in accordance with California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) requirements to ensure that hours may be counted toward licensure. Supervision will cover both direct psychotherapy and other supportive mental health services (e.g., case management, advocacy, psychoeducation, consultation) consistent with BBS guidelines.

    Key Responsibilities

    Clinical Services

    • Deliver individual, group, and/or family therapy to LGBTQ+ clients using evidence-based and trauma-informed practices.
    • Conduct assessments, create treatment plans, and maintain timely and compliant clinical documentation.
    • Support a healing-centered, culturally responsive approach to care.
    • Participate in case reviews and agency quality assurance activities.

    Intern Supervision & Program Development

    • Provide weekly support to 3–5 MSW interns in accordance with university and BBS guidelines.
    • Develop intern orientation and training materials with the Executive Director.
    • Facilitate group learning sessions, case conferences, and evaluations.
    • Assist in building long-term university partnerships and field placement infrastructure.

    Counseling Program Leadership

    • Collaborate with the Executive Director to expand the clinical program’s scope, staffing, and systems.
    • Support readiness efforts for Medi-Cal billing and managed care compliance (e.g., documentation systems, policies, credentialing).
    • Help prepare the agency for future eligibility to contract with health plans and public mental health systems.

    Community Engagement and Collaboration

    • Represent SJPC’s mental health services to partner organizations and community stakeholders.
    • Identify service needs and contribute to culturally relevant outreach strategies.
    • Support integration of mental health programming across agency events and initiatives.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Marriage and Family Therapy from an accredited program.
    • Current registration with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as one of the following:
      • Associate Clinical Social Worker (ASW)
      • Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT)
      • Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC)
      • Minimum 1 year of clinical experience (2+ years preferred).
      • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to LGBTQ+ health and identity-affirming clinical care.
      • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
      • Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a diverse, mission-driven team environment.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • LGBTQ+ lived experience, especially as a trans, nonbinary, BIPOC, or disabled person.
    • Previous experience supporting MSW interns or mentoring early-career clinicians.
    • Knowledge of Medi-Cal systems, managed care contracting, and/or clinical billing practices.
    • Bilingual skills in Spanish are highly desirable.
    • Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) and outcome tracking tools.
