    Description

    The Opportunity:

    • EOLWA provides end-of-life counseling and client support services throughout the State of Washington to qualified clients who want to choose the timing of their death. These services are provided at no cost. We encourage advance planning and provide multiple directives to help individuals with their advanced care planning.
    • EOLWA was a key player leading the coalition that passed Initiative 1000--the Washington Death with Dignity Act--into law in 2008. We now steward, protect, and uphold the law.
    • Our work is focused on protecting, increasing, and strengthening a full range of end-of-life choices, including using the Death with Dignity Law and Voluntarily Stopping Eating and Drinking in the State of Washington.

    Responsibilities

    1. Volunteer Recruitment and Outreach
      1. Oversee the recruitment of volunteers across the State of Washington (Volunteer Client Advisors, Volunteer Educators, Volunteer Providers, Phone Volunteers, Board Volunteers, etc.)
        1. Create postings and collateral to promote and recruit volunteers
        2. Write and update volunteer job descriptions as needed
        3. Update and Revise Volunteer application forms as needed
      2. Receive and respond to inquiries/questions about volunteering with EOLWA
    1. Volunteer Onboarding and Training
      1. Coordinate volunteer selection i.e. application review, interviews, Q&A sessions
      2. Update or develop new training materials for volunteers
      3. Support in the onboarding and training of new volunteers
        1. Send and manage onboarding paperwork (Volunteer manuals, community agreements, confidentiality and liability waivers, etc)
        2. Run Background checks on prospective volunteers
        3. Coordinate scheduling of volunteer interviews and training sessions
        4. Ensure that all volunteers are trained and receive the support and mentoring needed to provide appropriate and effective care per EOLWA’s guidelines, policies and values.
    1. Volunteer Management and Support
      1. Be the main resource for answering volunteer questions related to logistics / “how tos”
      2. Evaluate and improve volunteer management; encourage feedback and cultural humility; foster collaborative relationships
      3. Support in the coordination and facilitation of volunteer meetings to foster a well-informed and connected statewide team of volunteers
      4. Maintain and update volunteer records
      5. Encourage feedback from volunteers & share client feedback as appropriate
      6. Ensure volunteers have access to updated materials and resources
      7. Establish and implement processes for onboarding and offboarding all volunteers
      8. Keep abreast of best practices for volunteer recruitment, management, and support
    1. Client Services
      1. Support the Client Services Manager by:
        1. Receive and responding to inquiries/questions about the Death with Dignity law, VSED, and End of Life Care
        2. Support and managing clients and volunteers as needed via phone, email, zoom, and in-person conversations.
        3. Coordinate with and responding to hospice and provider inquiries.
        4. Update and creating new client materials as needed
        5. Evaluate and improving client services, encouraging feedback
        6. Cover Client Services when the Client Services Manager is out
    1. Other
      1. Ensure that all efforts above contribute to advancing a genuinely welcoming, inclusive, and equitable workplace and community.
      2. Collaborate and coordinate effectively with co-workers and volunteers.
      3. Prepare periodic goals, project plans, and reporting for internal and external stakeholders
      4. Meet all deadlines, including administrative deadlines.
      5. Take on additional duties as assigned.
      6. Support agency-wide initiatives.

    Qualifications

    • Must live in Washington State, or in OR/ID near the WA border
    • Willing to travel occasionally within WA for staff and community gatherings
    • 2-5 years of experience in volunteer management
    • Strong organizational and communication skills
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office & Zoom
    • Experience with Salesforce – or willingness to learn
    • Experience in PandaDoc, WordPress, and EveryAction a plus
    • Willing & able to learn new skills and technologies as needed
    • Able to make accurate judgment calls that may diverge from policies and procedures but that best support client, donor and supporter stewardship.

    Reports to: Co-Executive Director: Programs & Services

    Salary/Benefits: $70,000 - $85,000 depending on experience and qualifications. This is a remote, full-time position. Current benefits available to staff working 20 hours of more weekly include: flexible work hours, a very generous benefits package of health care, vision, and dental insurance at no cost to the employee; annual retirement contribution; a monthly stipend to cover expenses of working from home; a dedicated professional development budget; 21 days per year of PTO to start, increasing yearly; paid holidays including Christmas Eve through New Year’s Day, paid jury duty, paid family leave, and paid bereavement leave.
