    Paralegal Coordinator

    The WJCNY legal team provides consultations to workers throughout New York State and represents workers in a range of employment matters. We are seeking a Paralegal Coordinator for our Legal Team. Reports to Legal Director.

    Duties include:

    • Provide consistent support to WJCNY’s Legal team statewide, including coordination of scheduling and logistical support for the legal program as well as litigation support.
    • Interview clients, record accurate notes, and help develop factual and legal angles of cases.
    • Help draft affidavits and other legal documents.
    • Maintain substantive knowledge of federal and state laws affecting low-wage workers, including the Fair Labor Standards Act, New York Labor Law, Agricultural Worker Protection Act, Title VII, NYS Human Rights Law, H-2A and H-2B regulations, Trafficking Victims Protection Act, Workers’ Compensation, and immigration relief.
    • Maintain knowledge of procedural aspects of litigation and administrative claims with federal and state courts, federal and state Departments of Labor, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the National Labor Relations Board, the NYS Division of Human Rights, and United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.
    • Apply for and maintain Department of Justice accredited representative status.
    • Support the Legal Director when they are unavailable, maintaining appropriate activity as a bargaining unit member.
    • Point person for scheduling, planning, and facilitation of legal intake.
    • Develop and maintain a docket of up to 80-100 administrative cases.
    • Maintain consistent and professional communication with Legal Team’s clients.
    • Work under the pressure of deadlines and manage a large number of cases, as well as client intake, simultaneously.
    • Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with other non-profits, community-based organizations, and government agencies where appropriate.
    • Contribute to the development of educational materials and trainings.
    • Facilitate good communication, workflow, and collaboration between the Legal Team and other departments within WJCNY.
    • Maintain knowledge of policy changes and legal developments impacting workers.
    • Support organizational fundraising activities through meetings with funders, fundraising campaigns, development of promotional materials, and phone banking.
    • Comply with funder requirements, including accurate timesheets, grant billing, travel and mileage logs, data tracking, and reporting.
    • Maintain excellent attention to detail, strong organizational and time-management skills, and attention to deadlines.

    Occasional evenings and weekends required.

    Hybrid work available.

    Travel throughout the state may be required using company vehicles, including to Rochester and Westchester offices, New York City, Albany, and to rural areas in Western New York, Central New York, and throughout the Hudson Valley.

    $35.72/hr-$43.13/hr. Expected 35-hour workweek.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in law, political science, or related field or equivalent.
    • Minimum 6 months of full-time equivalent (paid or volunteer) experience with the issues facing low-wage workers or immigrant communities.
    • A demonstrated commitment to workers’ rights, immigrant rights, or other relevant social justice initiatives.
    • Familiarity with law firm environment.
    • Valid state driver’s license.
