    Job Type: Part-time; approx. 20 hours/week; 8:30 am-3:30 pm Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, September - June; Non-exempt

    Reports to: Director of Programs

    Salary Range: The hourly wage is based on experience pursuant to the organizational pay scale. Candidates with additional experience may qualify for higher pay grades. (Full pay scale available upon request)

    • 2 Years Relevant Experience: $27.07/hour
    • 3 Years Relevant Experience: $27.34/hour
    • 4 Years Relevant Experience: $27.62/hour
    • 5 Years Relevant Experience: $27.89/hour

    Job Summary

    The Program Coordinator - Reading Mentors is a 20 hour/week, Sept - June, non-exempt position that 1) Serves as lead support and coordinator to community volunteer mentors at partner schools; 2) Liaisons with assigned schools to maximize communication with and support to educators, students, and their families; 3) Provides on-site Reading Mentoring for 6-12 students who struggle with reading, per school over the school year; and 4) Staffs family events at schools and in the community. This is a hybrid position, approximately 85% in person at our partner schools in Portland and East Multnomah County, 15% remote. During peak seasons, more in-person work may be required.

    Together with all Shadow staff, volunteers, and Board members, the Program Coordinator - Reading Mentors is responsible for centering equity in all aspects of their processes and products, and continually seeking out opportunities to improve practices of equity and anti-racism.

    The Program Coordinator - Reading Mentors reports to the Director of Programs.

    Primary Job Duties

    • Acts as lead coordinator for a portfolio of 4-5 Reading Mentor partner schools
      • Serve as lead support and coordinator to community volunteer mentors at portfolio schools
      • Help train/assist volunteer mentors at schools in your portfolio
      • Act as an approachable, available contact at assigned schools to enhance our ability to support educators, students, and their families
      • Relay important information/updates to volunteer mentors and school contacts in your portfolio
    • Provides on-site Reading Mentoring for 6-12 students
    • Plans and executes family engagement and student celebration events at school and in the community, during the day, some evenings, and weekends
    • Provide training and support for teachers on integrating a multi-sensory reading platform into the classroom
    • Assist with purchase and distribution of student materials
    • Assist with student and teacher data collection
    • Participate in weekly team and supervisor meetings

    Minimum Requirements

    1-2 years experience working with children grades K-8

    • 1 year experience coordinating projects or community events
    • Demonstrated ability to engage with a diverse array of community members
    • Experience using Google Suite applications
    • Able to work independently, collaborate in person and virtually, and learn new skills via research & collaboration
    • Commitment to The Shadow Project’s mission
    • Willing to reflect on and take action to further social justice and equity
    • Reliable transportation to Shadow Project’s school sites in Portland and East Multnomah County, not generally accessible via public transportation.
    • Able to pass a criminal background check

    • Life knowledge/experience of disability, neurodiversity, racism, and/or poverty.

    Compensation

    $27.00 - 28.00/hour. Candidates with additional experience may qualify for higher pay grades. Shadow Project covers 100% of premiums for employee medical, dental, and vision insurance.     Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

    The Program Coordinator - Reading Mentors primarily works in schools with teachers and students, with limited remote work. This is a sedentary position that requires the employee to sit, stand, walk, and bend, and may occasionally require moving files and other equipment. The employee will regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. The Program Coordinator - Reading Mentors works part-time, 8:30 am - 3:30 pm, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday; September - June. There may be periods in which operational demands necessitate evening and weekend work.
