    Description

    The Recruitment and Admissions Coordinator (RAC) is responsible for recruiting candidates to apply for the AmeriCorps tutor position, leading the admissions process, and supporting incoming tutors through each stage of their pre-service and onboarding experience. Recruitment work is focused on increasing awareness of the AmeriCorps tutor position, which includes managing social media, online advertising and postings, and communication campaigns. Admissions work is focused on conducting and managing interviews, supporting candidates through the selections process, and engaging with tutors once they have accepted prior to their start date (including management of background checks and other pre-service operational tasks). The RAC will report to the organization’s Program Operations Director.

    Anticipated start date: January 2026

    Salary: $54,000 per year, plus benefits

    This position allows for more than 50% remote work. During the first month, the RAC will primarily work in person for onboarding and training. Occasional travel across Greater Philadelphia is required.

    Position Details

    Recruitment

    • Build and maintain relationships with colleges, faith-based institutions, libraries, neighborhood organizations, and other community partners to support recruitment outreach and increase awareness of Joyful Readers
    • Identify opportunities to promote serving with Joyful Readers and source candidates through events, online platforms, community presentations, and direct outreach and partnerships
    • Manage online recruitment platforms including Indeed, LinkedIn, Handshake and Idealist
    • Engage prospects to inform them about Joyful Readers, generate interest to apply, and guide them as needed through the application process
    • Lead an internal campaign to recruit AmeriCorps tutors to serve a second year
    • Partner with the Development Director to develop and implement a dynamic social media strategy that elevates Joyful Readers’ online presence and drives tutor recruitment

    Admissions

    • Conduct interviews with applicants and provide input on selection decisions
    • Organize and schedule colleague-led interviews for AmeriCorps tutor applicants
    • Support candidates who have received an invitation to serve to determine if Joyful Readers is the right opportunity for them before they accept the offer
    • Host virtual events to engage and ensure incoming AmeriCorps tutors understand service expectations, hours, start date, etc.
    • Support the admissions process by coordinating and tracking required paperwork, such as background checks and enrollment documentation
    • Support compliance efforts through timesheet audits and verification of background check documentation in alignment with AmeriCorps and School District requirements

    Social Media & Communications

    • Develop and manage a year-round social media calendar, in partnership with the Development Director, focused on strengthening Joyful Readers’ brand and supporting AmeriCorps tutor recruitment.
    • Collaborate with current tutors and alumni to create and share authentic content (e.g., tutor spotlights, day-in-the-life features, videos, and testimonials)
    • Create and schedule posts across platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and other channels) using tools such as Canva or Loomly
    • Draft and send recruitment-focused email newsletters in coordination with the Development Director
    • Manage photo and video assets for use in recruitment and communications materials

    Organizational Support

    • Support AmeriCorps tutor training, logistics and experience; facilitate trainings related to recruitment
    • Support organizational events, fundraisers, and initiatives as a member of the staff team

    Position Qualifications

    • Must have experience and enjoy building relationships with people from diverse backgrounds (culture, race, age, and more)
    • Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
    • Organized and capable of managing multiple relationships in various stages with varying needs
    • Ability to work well independently and in a collaborative team environment
    • Strong commitment to collaborating with a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workforce and working effectively with people with different work styles and backgrounds
    • Technology skills including proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams), and virtual meeting platforms including Zoom
    • Occasional availability to work nights and weekends for career fairs or community engagement activities
    • Experience engaging with diverse communities and/or AmeriCorps experience is highly valued
