    Job Title: Part-Time Finance Specialist

    Location: Stockton, CA (hybrid)

    Reports To: Executive Director and Director of New Business Operations

    Position Type: Part-Time (15–20 hours per week)

    Position Summary:

    Restore the Delta works in the areas of public education, research, program and policy development, and outreach so that all Californians recognize the Sacramento-San Joaquin Bay Delta as part of California’s natural heritage, deserving of restoration. We interface with local, state and federal agencies to advance this vision.

    Restore the Delta is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Part-Time Finance Specialist to manage and support the financial functions of our nonprofit organization. This position is ideal for someone with a strong background in nonprofit finance and grant management who thrives in a mission-driven environment. The Finance Specialist will ensure accurate financial tracking, compliance with funder requirements, and effective budget oversight for both general operations and restricted grant funding.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Oversee grant budgets, track expenses, and prepare reports to ensure compliance with all grant requirements and deadlines
    • Support budget development and forecasting in collaboration with the Executive Director and program staff
    • Prepare monthly financial reports for leadership and the Board of Directors
    • Coordinate with external accountants and auditors for annual filings, audits, and 990 preparation
    • Monitor restricted and unrestricted funding to ensure appropriate fund allocation and reporting
    • Assist in developing internal controls, policies, and procedures to support financial transparency and accountability
    • Provide documentation and financial data for grants as needed
    • Stay current with nonprofit accounting best practices and relevant compliance requirements (e.g., GAAP, IRS, federal/state grant rules)

    Qualifications:

    • 7+ years of experience in nonprofit finance, accounting, or grant management
    • Demonstrated experience managing budgets and financial reporting for government or private foundation grants
    • Proficiency with QuickBooks (or other nonprofit accounting software) and Microsoft Excel
    • Strong understanding of fund accounting and restricted vs. unrestricted funds
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and communicate effectively with a small team
    • Experience working with multiple funders and complex grant reporting requirements
    • Familiarity with federal grant regulations (e.g., 2 CFR Part 200 / Uniform Guidance)
    • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

    Compensation: $35-40 per hour, commensurate with experience

    Schedule: Flexible; 15–20 hours/week
