    Description

    Position Overview:

    The Senior Coalition Organizer will work closely with the Coalition Director to manage the HUSKY 4 Immigrants Coalition and Campaign. The Senior Coalition Organizer will be responsible for these primary areas working with staff and the Steering committee: Coalition Management including base building and relationship building with current and future coalition members, managing coalition meetings, and supporting coalition committees; Coalition organizing and mobilization including coordinating coalition events/activities and mobilizing coalition partners to events; Communications and data including managing membership data and working with online platforms to communicate with members. This position is supervised by the Coalition Director and will work closely with the Coalition Director in their day to day to manage and organize the coalition. This is a full-time exempt position with a salary range of $65,000 – $70,000 and a comprehensive benefits package. This position requires reliable transportation and a willingness to travel within Connecticut.

    Responsibilities:

    • Coalition Management:
      • Manage monthly coalition meetings, including creating agendas, coordinating facilitation, and managing logistics; when necessary, coordinate, facilitate, and execute additional coalition-wide meetings
      • Engaging coalition members within and between monthly meetings, conducting 1:1s with current and future member organizations to build the coalition’s base and build relationships with existing partners and bring in new partners.
      • Support Coalition Committees (Organizing, Advocacy, Healthcare Workers, and, Research Committees) and work with co-chairs to: outline and develop committee goals/workplans, implement and execute committee goals and work, attend and regularly meet with co-chairs to support the success of the committee
      • Support External Partnerships: maintaining external relationships with state/national organizations in collaboration with Coalition Director, and as needed, representing the coalition on coalition tables and in external meetings, including but not limited to meetings with legislators and other policymakers.
    • Coalition Organizing / Mobilization
      • Coordinate and organize efforts to plan and host coalition events, such as campaign launches, public hearings, rallies, press conferences, coalition celebrations & debriefings, and other coalition events that are not being led inside a specific subcommittee. This includes coordinating the planning for the event to ensure the event is successful, such as coordinating the program/content, outreach/turnout, logistics, as well as organizing a team of coalition members to be part of the planning process as appropriate.
      • Mobilize coalition members and manage member outreach to campaign events, actions, and other organizational activities.
      • Work with the Organizing committee and it’s co-chairs to ensure grassroots organizing by coalition members is strategic and successful, including providing on the ground support for member organization events and engaging grassroots members in coalition events to continue to build the coalition’s base.
      • Work with committees to Identify needs in order to plan and host coalition events.
    • Communications and Data:
      • Data: Manage and update coalitions’ membership database, update coalition Google Group, manage calendar invites for coalition meetings, manage member communication platforms (such as every action, action network, mobilize, Google Drive)
      • Work with communications consultants to implement components of communications strategy, such as drafting emails to the coalition, drafting social media posts, drafting newsletter emails, and identifying and preparing coalition partners to participate in press conferences.
    • Other duties as assigned and needed, including, but not limited to:
      • Recordkeeping of coalition events to provide necessary data for grant reports; ensure that data is collected and inputted and written reports are completed
      • Speak at events as needed to raise awareness of the campaign to different audiences.
      • Keep organized documents and materials that are created and used throughout the campaign.
      • Keep up-to-date on e-mails and other communications
      • Work flexible hours, mostly during the regular workday but some evening/weekend hours will be needed, especially during the legislative session

    Required Candidate Skills, Experience, and Attributes

    We recognize all qualified candidates will possess a mix of the ideal qualifications below.

    • 3 year minimum experience in community, grassroots, or coalition organizing required, prior full-time organizing experience preferred
    • Experience leading and coordinating a team, project and/or campaign to achieve common goals required
    • Prior experience working in advocacy, legislative, and/or organizing campaigns for progressive causes required
    • Ability to speak and communicate in another language required, preferably but not limited to Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Mandarin, Arabic, Hindi, or Spanish
    • Ability to plan and facilitate meetings or events of at least 20 people
    • Strong commitment to social justice and dismantling systems of oppression
    • Strong commitment to the immigrant community/immigrants’ rights
    • Ability to work in a collaborative leadership approach
    • Ability to work well both on their own and as part of a team
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Enthusiasm for open communication and building relationships with coalition members and external partners
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Excellent time management skills, ability to work to meet deadlines, prioritize tasks, and to delegate them when appropriate.
    • Demonstration of multicultural competence including the awareness, knowledge, and skills needed to work with others who are culturally different from self in meaningful, relevant, and productive ways.
    • Fluency in Google Docs is required.
    • Reliable access to a vehicle a must
    • Familiarity with tools like Action Network, Every Action, Mobilize or similar platforms a plus

    LOCATION: The HUSKY 4 Immigrants Coalition works on a hybrid (in person and virtual) schedule. Although the location for this position is flexible, transportation access to Hartford and throughout Connecticut is required. The use of our office space in New Haven is available.
