    PFLAG ​is the nation's largest organization dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them. Since its founding in 1973, PFLAG has worked every day to fight for an equitable, inclusive world where every LGBTQ+ person is safe, celebrated, empowered and loved.

    PFLAG National has over 550,000 members and supporters and over 350 chapters in the United States. This vast grassroots network is led by the Chief Executive Officer, and cultivated, resourced, and serviced by the PFLAG National staff, Board of Directors, and Regional Directors Council. Currently, PFLAG National has a staff capacity of 31 FTEs who reside in Washington DC and fourteen states; over half of these work fully remote from its headquarters. PFLAG National has a labor agreement with the OPEIU Local 2, AFL-CIO and has a favorable relationship with its employees.

    OPPORTUNITY FOR IMPACT

    PFLAG National seeks an experienced, strategic, and innovative Vice President of Development and Philanthropic Partnerships to design and drive a comprehensive fundraising strategy to achieve short-term and long-term revenue generation goals across multiple development programs including major gifts, corporate partnerships, foundation grants, grassroots donors, planned giving, and events. The VP reports to the Chief Operating Officer and works closely with the CEO, staff, and Board of Directors to meet PFLAG National’s fundraising goals. The VP also serves as a member of the PFLAG National Leadership Team and is the staff liaison to the Board of Directors Development Committee. The VP manages PFLAG National’s Development & Philanthropic Partnership Department staff.

    This is an ideal opportunity for a proven, innovative, and strategic fundraising professional to deliver a tremendous impact towards supporting, educating, and advocating for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Design and drive an innovative and comprehensive fundraising strategy, achieving annual and multi-year fundraising goals while strategically increasing PFLAG National’s fundraising capacity;
    • Design, implement, and manage all fundraising activities including individual giving and membership dues, major gifts, planned giving, corporate partnerships, sponsorships, foundation grants, and special events;
    • Serve as frontline fundraiser and steward, in collaboration with the CEO and COO, for PFLAG National’s top philanthropic partners (individuals, corporations, foundations);
    • Craft innovative strategies and activities for donor cultivation, prospect research, solicitation, and acknowledgment for all categories of gifts;
    • In collaboration with the COO and Leadership Team, and in consultation with the CEO, participate in the development of PFLAG National’s budget and oversee the Development & Philanthropic Partnerships department’s budget;
    • Creatively enhance the CEO, COO, and Board’s engagement and impact with donors;
    • Engage with the PFLAG National Board of Directors to involve, support, and lead them in fundraising and staff the Board of Directors Development Committee;
    • Supervise Development & Philanthropic Partnership staff in the national office and

    offsite office locations:

    • Supervise team of four: Director, Major Gifts & Corporate Philanthropy, Foundation Grants Manager, Development Coordinator, and the Senior Coordinator, Corporate Philanthropy
    • Provide direction, guidance and support in the planning and implementation of work plans with a focus on enhancing intersectional equity:
    • Conduct performance reviews of direct reports;
    • Strategically leverage communication channels and platforms, including traditional and social media, to support fundraising goals;
    • Develop and maintain systems to track progress on revenue goals and regularly assess return on investment for various fundraising activities;
    • Maintain an annual development calendar with relevant dates for appeals, asks, and applications, renewals, and funder reports of all kinds;
    • Participate in Leadership Team meetings, staff meetings, Board of Directors meetings, Regional Directors Council (chapter leaders) meetings, and staff committees as assigned;
    • Enhance and create business processes and systems to support development work; and
    • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the CEO.

    SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

    • 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit (or similar) development work and 3+ years experience supervising staff;
    • Thorough understanding of, respect for, and adherence to professional and financial ethics;
    • Familiarity with LGBTQ+ issues, DEIA (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility) practices, and civil rights and social justice movements;
    • Enthusiastic support of PFLAG’s strategic vision, mission, and goals;
    • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and management skills;
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
    • Demonstrated ability working with remote employees;
    • Demonstrated success in team leadership and management;
    • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of personnel both internally and externally to the organization;
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and work independently on a variety of tasks simultaneously;
    • Successful experience managing budgets;
    • Experience in managing consultants, external advisors or vendors;
    • Strong applied computer skills, with some understanding of CRM’s (Salesforce or similar) is helpful;
    • Demonstrated success in managing a substantial fundraising portfolio;
    • Ability to travel as needed.

    Location: PFLAG National strongly prefers candidates based in, or willing to relocate to, the Washington, DC or DMV area, with 2+ days per week in the DC office.

    Salary: Salary range is $120,000-$155,000, commensurate with experience, expertise and other qualifying factors.
