    About The Sentry

The Sentry is an investigative and policy organization that seeks to disable multinational predatory networks that benefit from violent conflict, repression, and kleptocracy.

Pull back the curtain on wars, mass atrocities, and other human rights abuses, and you’ll find grand corruption and unchecked greed. These tragedies persist because the perpetrators rarely face meaningful consequences. The Sentry aims to alter the warped incentive structures that continually undermine peace and good governance. Our investigations follow the money as it is laundered from war zones to financial centers around the world. We provide evidence and strategies for governments, banks, and law enforcement to hold the perpetrators and enablers of violence and corruption to account. These efforts provide new leverage for human rights, peace, and anti-corruption efforts.

    Position Overview

The Sentry is seeking an innovative and dynamic Director of Multimedia & Strategic Communications to lead the creation and execution of bold, compelling narrative and visual content that connects global audiences to our mission. This role will shape The Sentry’s multimedia and strategic communications strategy in an era where attention, trust, and impact are earned through powerful storytelling across diverse platforms.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director will guide a small, high-performing team to produce and distribute innovative content—including short-form videos, graphics, animations, photography, podcasts, and interactive experiences—that amplifies The Sentry’s investigations, policy work, and global impact. This leader will integrate strategic communications with creative content production to expand reach, engage new audiences, attract donors, and strengthen The Sentry’s influence and impact.

This position calls for a mission-driven, highly creative innovator who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is fluent in both traditional and emerging digital media, and can design high-quality multimedia campaigns on a modest budget.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DESIRED OUTCOMES

    • Oversee the creation and implementation of a multi-year strategic communications plan aligned with organizational priorities, ensuring measurable goals and clear performance indicators.
    • Oversee and expand The Sentry’s multimedia output across many formats, including video, photography, graphics, and podcasts, ensuring creative assets amplify the organization’s mission and impact.
    • Build strategies to grow and sustain The Sentry’s online audiences and thought leadership, including through creative uses of digital platforms, influencer collaborations, and non-traditional media channels.
    • Develop KPIs and content performance metrics and continuously refine the strategy based on data and insights. Establish and track metrics for The Sentry’s publications, using data to refine content strategy and creative direction.
    • Lead The Sentry’s press strategy, including by establishing and expanding relationships, credibility, and influence with local and regional media organizations and storytellers.
    • Translate investigative findings, policy wins, and organizational milestones into compelling stories for diverse audiences across social media, digital platforms, and donor channels.
    • Draft and edit organizational materials, such as press releases, social media posts, talking points, op-eds, speeches, and newsletters, ensuring continuity in organizational voice.
    • Cultivate relationships with top-tier journalists, media producers, creatives, and digital influencers in The Sentry’s issue areas to expand distribution opportunities.
    • Experiment with emerging media tools and formats to tell complex stories in concise, engaging, and shareable ways.
    • Work closely with, and support, policy, investigations, and development teams to produce multimedia content that advances advocacy, fundraising, and thought leadership goals, ensuring that multimedia and strategic communications are embedded into every aspect of The Sentry’s work.
    • Oversee the design of a new website that integrates multimedia storytelling and offers an engaging, user-friendly interface.
    • Ensure the rigor, ethics, and integrity of multimedia content and support the expansion and integration of digital tools and technologies, such as AI, when appropriate.
    • Manage and mentor a small team, fostering a creative culture and aligning output with organizational priorities.

    Requirements
