    Description

    Earthworks is hiring a Communications Associate to join our dynamic and growing communications team!

    The core responsibility of the Earthworks’ Communications Team is to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences, establish public credibility and trust, and compel action in order to protect health and climate from oil and gas harms across the supply chain. The position will coordinate with other Earthworks staff and allies to enhance education and advocacy campaigns with digital strategy and content, as well as design other materials.

    This position reports to Earthworks’ Senior Communications Manager for Energy, will have no supervisory duties and will work closely with Earthworks’ Energy, Policy, and Communications teams and external coalition partners.

    Core Responsibilities

    • Communicate persuasively and translate complex data-driven, science based issues to be broadly understood;
    • Develop messaging and narrative campaigns for digital platforms that are effective in reaching key audiences;
    • Create compelling visual stories, including infographics, graphic design and video materials with Digital Communications Team staff;
    • Maintain relationships with Earthworks staff and allies to develop coordinated communications efforts to educate and compel decisive action from policy-makers, private industry, and the public.
    • Ensure the values of equity and justice are centered in communications work and products, particularly with respect to frontline groups and marginalized communities.

    Required Experience and Qualifications

    • 3-5 years of professional media and/or communications experience,
    • Experience with social and digital media communications;
    • Ability to work independently AND in a highly collaborative and remote environment where teamwork, collegiality, and self-motivation are necessary for success;
    • Detail oriented with the ability to juggle multiple projects for different stakeholders, often in high-pressure situations or in rapid-response to real-world events.

    Preferred Experience and Qualifications

    • Understands digital analytics, how content gets disseminated across platforms, progressive influencers and organizations, and other aspects of the modern digital landscape;
    • Multicultural competence, cultural humility, and a commitment to working with people from a variety of backgrounds, especially ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
    • Experience in holding corporations and private industry accountable;
    • Experience in a non-profit, advocacy, or social justice organization.

    Location and Travel

    Location for this position is remote in the United States, and applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

    Some travel may be required for certain positions. Employees who are unable to travel/attend in-person meetings for health or disability reasons may request accommodations.

    Compensation and Benefits

    The salary range for this position is $65,000-$70,000 annually, depending on experience. Earthworks provides full-time staff with a competitive package of benefits, including employer-paid medical, vision, dental, life, and disability insurance. Additionally, Earthworks offers unlimited paid leave, paid parental leave, and a 403(b) retirement plan (with a 5% match after one year of employment). After five years of employment, staff are eligible for a 12 week, fully paid sabbatical.

    Bargaining Unit Status

    Earthworks is a union workplace; our employees are represented by Earthworkers Unite/ Industrial Workers of the World (IWW). This position is included the bargaining unit.
