    Ballard Food Bank’s mission is to bring food and hope to our neighbors because there can be enough for everyone. To achieve our mission, we provide access to nutritious foods through our grocery model food bank, Kindness Café, and Community Resource Hub, which encompasses financial resources, referral, and mail services that support self-sufficiency. We also advocate for food equity and justice. Our new home, which opened in October 2021, serves as a Hub for Hope as it brings together food, services, and community partners in a one-stop shop.     Position summary:

    Our Facilities Manager ensures the safe, efficient, and mission-aligned functioning of Ballard Food Bank’s physical spaces, including our main building (market, kitchen, warehouse, and office) and vehicle fleet. This role plays a key part in maintaining a secure, well-managed, and welcoming environment for staff, volunteers, clients, neighbors, and other community members.

    Responsibilities:

    • Ensure our building, warehouse (including refrigerated storage), market, kitchen, and vehicle fleet are well-maintained, safe, and compliant with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
    • Optimize facilities layout and oversee the use and upkeep of building systems, equipment, and gate access.
    • Manage relationships and contracts with vendors providing services such as janitorial, landscaping, refrigeration, utilities, equipment, HVAC, safety, and security.
    • Develop and manage the facilities budget, track expenses, and make informed decisions about resource allocation.
    • Update and manage maintenance plans, including a long-term facility plan, that maximizes the life of equipment, vehicles, and facility.
    • Support and partner with all departments to make sure operations run smoothly.
    • Create standard operating procedures for building and safety operations.
    • Lead emergency preparedness efforts and serve as the primary contact for facilities-related issues during off-hours.

    Skills/Qualifications:

    • An alignment with BFB’s values and ability to comfortably and respectfully interact with staff, volunteers, clients, neighbors, and other community members.
    • 3+ years of experience in facilities and/or operations management, with a preference for experience in environments that include temperature-controlled storage.
    • Familiarity with building systems (HVAC, plumbing, access control), warehouse operations, and vehicle maintenance tracking.
    • Working knowledge of OSHA, ADA, and other relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
    • Familiarity with kitchen equipment and health standards.
    • Experience managing budgets, contracts, and vendor relationships for facilities-related services.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work across departments and with external partners.
    • Valid driver’s license.
    • Certification in facilities management (e.g., FMP, CFM) or OSHA safety training is a plus.
    • Ability to respond to facilities-related emergencies in an on-call rotation.
    • Ability to lift and move items up to 50 pounds as needed.
    • Proficiency in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Ukrainian, or Russian a plus.

    Hours:

    This is a full-time position with some evening and weekend hours for on-call rotation, events, and programming. Ballard Food Bank currently works a 35-hour work week.
