Tsuru for Solidarity Director of Operations

Tsuru for Solidarity (TFS) seeks a Director of Operations to lead the infrastructural support and operations of the organization. This position will be supervised by the TFS Executive Director and will work closely with the Leadership Council (board) and Director of Organizing. The position can be located anywhere, with regular participation in virtual meetings during US hours. Travel to TFS events, about 15% of time, is required. Some evening and weekend work is also required.

Tsuru for Solidarity’s mission is to educate, advocate, and protest to close all detention sites; build solidarity with other communities of color that have experienced forced removal, detention, deportation, separation of families, and other forms of racial and state violence; coordinate intergenerational, cross-community healing circles addressing the trauma of our shared histories.

Tsuru for Solidarity is a program of Community Initiatives.

Location Remote with in person travel (15%) required

Responsibilities

• Strategic thought partner to Executive Director, Directors, and Leadership Council
• Leads strategic decision making processes for staff and staff infrastructure, with HR support and professional development provided by Community Initiatives
• Manages relationship between TFS and Community Initiatives (fiscal sponsor)
• Manages Leadership Council (board) meetings and provides support to at large members
• Manages logistics for TFS special events & general operations
• Manages day to day finances of TFS utilizing reports and systems from Community Initiatives
• Manages other TFS systems including physical and digital tools and accounts
• Supervises TFS contractors
• Additional duties as needed in support of TFS operations and campaigns

Qualifications

Excellent operations skills, problem solving skills, and ability to work both collaboratively and independently are required. A minimum of five years experience in operations or non-profit leadership is required. Familiarity with and understanding of Japanese American incarceration history, anti-racist movements, immigrant rights, abolitionist organizing, and healing justice are preferred. Any multilingual skills (Spanish, Creole, Japanese) are a plus.
