    Description

    The National Book Foundation (NBF), presenter of the National Book Awards, is seeking a full-time Digital Manager to join our small and dynamic team. This newly created position will report to the Director of Finance & Operations and collaborate closely with the Senior Manager of Marketing and Communications to build and expand the National Book Foundation’s digital strategy and infrastructure, enhancing the Foundation’s online presence and engagement with a national—and global—audience of readers.

    The Digital Manager will manage the daily operations of the website, systemize and report on engagement analytics, maintain digital media archives, and support the alignment of digital campaigns across new and existing platforms. This role will also manage and oversee a website redesign with external partners—a pivotal position for a mid-career professional to help steward the National Book Foundation’s exciting next chapter in digital accessibility, fundraising, innovation, and reach.

    The ideal start date for this position is January 2026. This is a full-time position based in New York City and operates on a flexible hybrid in-office / remote schedule. Some evening and weekend work is required.

    Responsibilities

    Website Development & Management

    • Oversee maintenance, updates, and quality assurance to nationalbook.org and its affiliated microsites, with relevant stakeholders, to deploy a compelling and effective visitor-centric experience
    • Strategize, plan, and publish year-round website content with internal teams, partners, and vendors for optimal promotion
    • Oversee day-to-day digital operations and improve workflows for managing feedback, editing, and publishing of all NBF announcements
    • Ensure branding is consistent and visually cohesive across the Foundation’s digital platforms, including that text and images convert and display properly and accurately
    • Identify and resolve website issues and proactively recommend site improvements
    • Oversee the project management of NBF’s website re-design and migration with external developers and internal stakeholders to integrate existing data and build sustainable systems

    Other Digital Projects

    • Analyze website, social media, and email marketing metrics to inform digital strategies and increase website traffic, engagement, and donor conversion rates with the Communications and Development teams
    • Use Google Analytics to monitor website performance and make recommendations, adjustments, and improvements while maintaining SEO best practices
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of email deployment platform and list management
    • Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external vendors across digital projects, managing a roadmap of deliverables and maintaining good lines of communication
    • Oversee and maintain NBF’s digital systems and databases, ensuring organized tracking of projects, workflows, style guides, templates, and media archives across internal and external platforms
    • Support other digital projects, research, and technical needs as assigned

    Skills and Qualifications:

    • 4-6 years of experience in digital management, website development, or relevant fields
    • Proficiency in WordPress managing content and customizing WP functions and templates with PHP, HTML, CSS
    • Experience collaborating with external web developers and designers to build and launch digital projects and familiarity with content migration and UAT processes
    • Strong technical knowledge of digital trends, best practices, content promotion, and fundraising tools
    • Ability to quickly assess and troubleshoot issues across digital platforms
    • Working knowledge of website metric analytics and platforms, including ability to define data goals and questions, interpret, analyze, and communicate data with a close attention to detail and accuracy
    • Ability to manage digital assets and media on platforms, e.g. YouTube, Vimeo, and Flickr
    • Familiarity with managing email marketing platforms and list management, e.g. Mailchimp, Account Engagement
    • Excellent oral and written communications skills; copyediting experience is a strong plus
    • Ability and willingness to communicate technical topics to non-technical audiences
    • Extremely organized, communicative, detail-oriented, proactive, with an ability to balance multiple projects with tight deadlines
    • Creative with an eye for design and organizational branding with the ability to collaborate effectively with designers on visual digital projects
    • Familiarity with Asana, Trello, Salesforce, Classy, and Adobe Creative Suite is preferred
    • Applicants should demonstrate a capacity and flexibility to work both independently and collaboratively with others
    • Applicants must have a passion for books and possess an enthusiastic, flexible, patient, and kind spirit

    Compensation:

    Annual salary is $65,000 to $75,000 depending on experience.

    This is a full-time position based in New York City with a two day per week in-office requirement through the four-month probationary period. After the probationary period, there is a flexible in-office/remote hybrid schedule.

    NBF’s benefits package includes health and dental insurance with employer covered premiums at 90%, as well as vision, Short-Term & Long-Term Disability, and Paid Family Leave benefits. After one year of employment, NBF matches a 6% maximum of the employee’s 403(b) contribution. NBF provides 22 days paid time off per year, in addition to observing holidays, Summer Fridays and closing the office between Christmas Day and New Years Day.
