    • Birth Center Equity (BCE) was created to make birth center care an option in every community by growing and sustaining birth centers led by Black, Indigenous, and people of color. BCE honors and acknowledges the rich and dynamic legacy of Black, Indigenous, and people of color birth activism and all that is actively happening now. BCE was created to bridge the gap between Black, Indigenous, and people of colorled birth centers and access to capital.
    • BCE aims to make a unique contribution by building a coalition among Black, Indigenous, and people of colorled birth centers with the express goal of growing and leveraging financial resources for collective growth and sustainability. BCE has cultivated a relationship and values-based network of nearly 60 established and developing community birth centers across the country, and focuses on investing in Black, Indigenous, people of color-led birth centers to grow and sustain community birth infrastructure for generations.

    JOB SUMMARY

    Birth Center Equity (BCE) is seeking a Development Manager to oversee the growing grants program and the day-to-day development functions of the organization. We are hoping for a Grant Whisperer and true Development Dynamo! Must love mobilizing resources for birth justice and social change.

    Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), this position is responsible for managing BCE’s grants program, donor data management, donor prospecting, and external donor communications. This role will be a core strategic and administration development-focused position for the organization, and provides the opportunity to create and maintain systems to more effectively run the development activities and strategies to bring in more philanthropic resources.

    BCE is a fiscally sponsored project of Movement Sustainability Commons at Resist, Inc., and the position will be officially hired by and have benefits provided by Resist Inc.

    BCE will consider candidates who can work a regular, but flexible schedule. BCE observes a Monday-Thursday work week and holds core working hours between 12-4 pm EST, 10 am-2 pm MST, and 9 am-1 pm PST. Individuals with other full-time or on-call roles are not a good fit for this position. While this is a remote position, qualified candidates located in the following philanthropically dense cities are preferred: New York, San Francisco, Seattle.

    DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Manage grants calendar; new proposal submissions; reporting to current and prospective foundations; and the annual grants strategy.
    • Grant writing with executive team support.
    • Manage current donor and prospect data, and assess when BCE will need updates/refinements to the new system.
    • Create external communications: email newsletters, acknowledgement letters, and social media content, flyers, brochures, and any other needed collateral (in collaboration with BCE Narrative and Communications team).
    • Research prospective donors (individual, foundation, and corporate).
    • Work with the BCE team, board members, and volunteers on development strategy and tasks needed to meet annual fundraising goals, including tracking and mapping of various conferences and events within BCE’s philanthropic networks.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Commitment to social, economic, racial, birth, and environmental justice and equity, and understanding of the transformative personal and organizational work necessary to achieve these goals.
    • 2-3 years of experience in fundraising, specifically minimum two years of grant writing and grants management experience – specific experience in birth justice or reproductive justice preferred.
    • Outstanding attention to detail and ability to proofread work.
    • Demonstrated ability to be well-organized and work independently, with proven ability to multitask, set work priorities, track projects, and meet deadlines.
    • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with diverse constituents, including colleagues, families, donors, and vendors.
    • Experience managing fundraising campaigns and digital marketing strategies is ideal.
    • Comfortable working remotely and utilizing digital tools like Google Workspace, 1Password, Zoom, Monday.com, and Mailchimp.
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in and across teams.

    Compensation and Benefits

    This is a full-time position at 32 hours per week, with a salary of $90,000 commensurate with experience. BCE follows a set salary structure, so the salary for this role is non-negotiable.
