    About Us

Impact is achieved through two core programs, the Prosimian Sanctuary and the Advocacy & Education program, each a pillar supporting the bridge to a brighter future for lemurs and other prosimian primates.

    • Prosimian Sanctuary: The Prosimian Sanctuary is the only sanctuary in the United States dedicated solely to providing professional care for lemurs and other prosimian primates rescued or surrendered from the pet trade and other inappropriate environments. We specialize in physical and behavioral rehabilitation of previously neglected and/or abused lemurs. The residents are provided, often for the first time in their lives, with specialized veterinary care, species-appropriate nutrition, spacious and enriched habitats, conspecific socialization that aligns with natural history, and compassionate professional caregivers.
    • Advocacy & Education Program: EPF also advocates for ending the primate pet trade in the United States by endorsing and promoting the Captive Primate Safety Act, legislation that would prohibit personal possession of primates nationwide. It is our goal to eventually close the Prosimian Sanctuary due to lack of need for our services. Currently the demand for our services significantly outweighs our capacity, but we aim to protect, rescue, and provide lifelong professional care for as many prosimians in need as we responsibly can.
