SB OverSeas is a Belgium-based NGO that provides education and empowerment programmes to refugees, asylum seekers and other victims of conflict both in Belgium and Lebanon where we work with our partner organisation. It was funded in 2013 and we have been growing rapidly as to prevent a "lost generation" with catch-up schooling.
We run two different programmes: one in Brussels called SB Espoir (SB Hope) aims at supporting the integration of young refugees and asylum seekers living in the city, through vocational trainings and team building activities. We do this through the help of local and international volunteers already residing in Brussels who could assist them with language support and their expertise.
The other programme is in Lebanon. We have three centres across the country (in Beirut, Saida and Arsal) where our local staff along with international volunteers support children, women and men in English language, but also with Math and Science. Due to local conflicts, those people had to flee their home country and start building a new life. As to prevent a so-called "lost generation", we assist children to access the Lebanese local education system, through our education programme. We also run an empowerment centre for women, where they can develop and improve their skills and integrate in the local labour market.
