The son of a school nurse and a flooring salesman, Matt grew up fascinated with science from a young age, he chose to study chemical engineering at the University of Arizona. Matt went on to earn his PhD from the University of Texas at Austin, developing new fuel cell technology. He wrote his dissertation on “Low Thermal Expansion Transition Metal Oxides for Reduced Temperature Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Cathodes”--that is--on creating new highly efficient and non-polluting power sources. In the face of the climate crisis, including the wildfires suffocating the American West, it is time for more scientists in Congress.
