    Volunteer Position: Family Advocate (Maternal & Child Health Team – MCT)

    Department: Health & Wellness

    Organization: Women of Color on the Move (WOCOTM)

    Location: Remote / Hybrid (with community engagement in Oakland, CA and surrounding areas)

    Time Commitment: 5–10 hours per week

    Reports To: Maternal & Child Health (MCH) Program Director- Global under our substance abuse program

    Women of Color on the Move (WOCOTM) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering women, girls, and families through education, leadership development, advocacy, and community engagement. Our Maternal & Child Health (MCH) Program focuses on improving the health, wellness, and resilience of mothers, infants, and families in underserved communities by providing culturally responsive resources, education, and support.

    Position Overview

    The Volunteer Family Advocate (MCT) serves as a bridge between families and the resources they need to thrive. This role focuses on supporting pregnant women, new mothers, and families with young children by providing information, referrals, and advocacy services within WOCOTM’s Maternal & Child Health (MCH) initiative.

    The ideal candidate is compassionate, community-minded, and passionate about maternal and child wellness, with a desire to make a positive impact through advocacy and empowerment.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Family Support & Advocacy
      • Serve as a trusted point of contact for families seeking guidance, support, or referrals.
      • Assist clients in accessing local services, including healthcare, nutrition, housing, and early childhood programs.
      • Advocate for maternal and child health equity within the community.
      • Maintain confidentiality and uphold WOCOTM’s values of respect and cultural sensitivity.
    • This position is a volunteer position will serve as part of Mobile Crisis Team (MCT) integrated team member with Children’s System of Care and Adult System of Care in California and North Carolina . Upon arrival, the MCT Family Advocates and HHS Client Service Practitioners respond to family, adult, and child crises in the community, emphasizing response to transitional-age youth 25 and younger.
    • Response locations shall include family homes, schools, and other environments as requested through Law Enforcement when safety concerns are identified. MCT Family Advocates work with youth, adults, and families to mitigate the crisis to prevent the need for a psychiatric hold or removal from the family environment.
    • The Family Advocate shall primarily work with family members to offer support and education regarding youth, adult, and family crises. Once the crisis has been stabilized, the team provides follow-up support to ensure families are adequately linked to services and community resources to prevent future crises globally
    1. Outreach & Engagement
      • Participate in community outreach to raise awareness about WOCOTM’s MCH programs and available resources.
      • Attend local health fairs, workshops, and family events to connect with parents and caregivers.
      • Support recruitment of families for workshops, classes, and support groups.
    2. Education & Empowerment
      • Share educational materials on maternal health, prenatal care, postpartum wellness, infant care, and nutrition.
      • Support virtual and in-person MCH sessions by facilitating discussions or co-hosting family learning activities.
      • Encourage families to participate in self-care, stress management, and wellness programs.
    3. Data & Documentation
      • Maintain accurate records of family interactions, referrals, and outcomes.
      • Provide feedback and success stories to the MCH Program Director for reporting and program improvement.
      • Use digital tools (e.g., Google Forms, Airtable, or SimplePractice, Microsoft 365) for secure documentation and follow-up.
      • Able to used A1 tools

    Qualifications

      • Experience in community outreach, social services, or maternal/child health preferred.
      • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
      • Ability to engage empathetically with families from diverse backgrounds.
      • Basic computer literacy and comfort using online communication tools.
      • Able to used micosoft-365
      • Knowledge of community health resources in California (preferred but not required).
      • Passion for WOCOTM’s mission of empowering women, mothers, and families.
      • Must have a computer and able to work remote
