The Lao Conservation Trust for Wildlife is the first wildlife rescue, conservation, and education center in Lao PDR. Our Wildlife Husbandry Program is directly involved in the rehabilitation of animals rescued from the illegal wildlife trade while also improving the welfare of the residents that cannot be released into the wild. Our husbandry and enrichment volunteers work from 7am to 4pm, with one day off per week. Although we run with a daily "schedule", working in the tropics and with rescued animals means the seasons, weather and needs of the animals can change unexpectedly! As a volunteer you will have many daily tasks such as:
- preparing diets
- cleaning animal enclosures,
- feeding animals
- creating enrichments for various animals
- building new enclosures
- renovating old enclosures
- creating enrichment structures for all residents of our projects
- assisting will maintenance around our center
Our volunteers can truly see the difference their work is making and all volunteers who join our projects leave something behind! Due to the large scale of our project, all volunteers are directly involved in hands on work to provide care and enrichment to our animal residents.
Volunteers stay onsite and have the opportunity to see and observe the animal residents every day through their work at the Center. Bungalows nestled under the trees provide accommodation and volunteers can relax after a long day of helping our animal residents in their porch hammock. Meals are provided daily with simple breakfast made by volunteers with provided foods and lunch/dinner catered by a local Lao restaurant.
We pick up and drop off volunteers every Sunday to Vientiane for easy, convenient travel to our Center. We have 24/7 staff support and security so volunteers can feel safe and at home while staying with us. LCTW is located in a rural area of Laos allowing volunteers to experience authentic Lao life and culture.
See our website for more information, or send us an e-mail!
Please note - we are a completely hands-off center so do not allow direct contact with the animals unless for veterinary procedures or other necessary situations. We promote ethical wildlife tourism for the benefit and health of primarily our animals, but also the safety of our volunteers and visitors.
