    Long Term Care Ombudsman

    Trained, state-certified staff and volunteers who advocate for the quality of life and care for our residents in skilled nursing homes, residential care homes, and long-term care facilities.

    The Motherlode Long Term Care Ombudsman (MLLTCO) has identified an urgent need for volunteer nursing home advocates in the northern part of the state.

    If you are looking for a challenging volunteer opportunity that offers flexible hours, This is an important way to contribute to your community.

    The MLLTCO provides advocacy to people living in long-term care facilities and investigates allegations of abuse and neglect in those facilities.MLLTCO volunteer advocates are at the front lines in combating elder abuse and exploitation.

    Volunteers undergo 36 hours of training in communication, observation, and troubleshooting skills and are required to shadow an experienced volunteer before being assigned to a facility.

    Long-Term Care Ombudsman representatives assist residents in long-term care facilities with issues related to day-to-day care, health, safety, and personal preferences. Problems can include, but are not limited to:

    • Violation of residents' rights or dignity
    • Physical, verbal, mental, or financial abuse
    • Poor quality of care
    • Dietary concerns
    • Medical care, therapy, and rehabilitation issues
    • Medicare and Medi-Cal benefit issues
    • Improper transfer or discharge of a resident
    • Inappropriate use of chemical or physical restraints
