Grant Writer / Fundraising Partner (Pro Bono Opportunity)

    Organization: Mentor A Promise (MAP)

Location: Remote (with potential NYC-based collaboration)

    Type: Volunteer (Pro Bono)

    About Mentor A Promise

Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability in New York City. Through mentorship, academic enrichment, literacy development, housing initiatives, and creative expression, MAP creates safe, consistent, and empowering spaces where young people can thrive.

As MAP expands its work into affordable housing and community development, we are seeking a passionate and skilled Grant Writer / Fundraising Partner to help secure early-stage funding and strengthen the foundation for MAP’s new housing initiatives. This is a pro bono opportunity to play a critical role in building equitable, community-centered housing that aligns with our mission of stability, opportunity, and hope for all families.

    Role Overview

The Grant Writer / Fundraising Partner will research, identify, and pursue funding opportunities from government agencies, private foundations, and corporate partners. The role includes writing competitive grant proposals, developing donor materials, and assisting with early fundraising strategies. This opportunity is ideal for someone who wants to make a tangible impact in affordable housing and youth development while helping a growing nonprofit expand its reach and capacity.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Research and identify funding opportunities (government, foundation, and private)
    • Draft and support the submission of competitive grant proposals and applications
    • Develop and maintain a simple grants calendar to track deadlines and opportunities
    • Assist in creating donor outreach materials and light fundraising campaigns
    • Collaborate with leadership to align proposals with MAP’s mission, housing vision, and program goals
    • Track deadlines, maintain organized records, and report on progress

    Ideal Candidate

    • 2–3 years of experience in grant writing, fundraising, or nonprofit development
    • Strong writing, research, and persuasive communication skills
    • Familiarity with housing, community development, or social justice initiatives a plus
    • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-directed
    • Collaborative and mission-driven, with a passion for equity, housing, and community impact

    Why Join Us

    • Contribute your expertise to a mission-driven nonprofit dedicated to housing and youth empowerment
    • Gain hands-on experience in real estate development fundraising and community impact work
    • Collaborate with experienced developers, nonprofit leaders, and community advocates
    • Help shape a growing organization from the ground up and create long-term social change
    • Be part of a team committed to building equity, stability, and opportunity for New York City families

    Commitment

    • Flexible, part-time, remote-friendly role
    • Estimated 5–10 hours per week
    • Pro bono position with the potential to evolve into a paid or long-term partnership as projects advance and funding is secured
    • Check and respond to emails daily, ensuring all responses are completed within 48 hours
    • Take responsibility for performance improvement by identifying funding challenges and implementing solutions
