    Description

    Museum Educator

    LancasterHistory is looking to recruit volunteer Museum Educators. The museum’s volunteer Museum Educators enjoy working with children, ages 7 through 14, they possess a curiosity about history and specifically about Lancaster’s history, President James Buchanan, Congressman Thaddeus Stevens, as well as a variety of eras as early as the 1700s through the 20 th century. Both high school and college students who have interests in education careers will gain excellent experience through this volunteer position at LancasterHistory.

    LancasterHistory provides training for all volunteer Museum Educators. Training includes program teaching methods for work with student groups, as well as historical content information on specific historical biographies, subjects and events. Volunteers will receive reading materials for content knowledge and will be scheduled to shadow fellow volunteer Museum Educators.

    Requirements for volunteering as a Museum Educator includes dependability, good verbal communication skills; the ability to stand for 1- 2 hours and to navigate staircases. The minimum age for this volunteer position is 16 years old. Volunteer Museum Educators must be willing and able to commit 3 hours to work with a group of students; three hours is the typical length of a LancasterHistory student group program.
