    Description

HHP Healthcare Access Manager Volunteer: Lead the Fight for Health Literacy!

Are you driven by a mission to dismantle barriers to healthcare and empower every individual with the knowledge they need to thrive? Do you excel at strategic outreach, partnership building, and program coordination? The Human Health Project (HHP) is actively seeking a passionate Healthcare Access Manager Volunteer to champion our critical health literacy initiatives, particularly in the US and beyond.

About the Human Health Project (HHP): At HHP, our mission is clear: to improve the health of the underserved and vulnerable through holistic information, education, and advocacy. We firmly believe that by increasing health literacy-the ability to find, understand, and use health information and services-we can achieve better health outcomes and significantly reduce medical errors for everyone. Our vision is a world where all people facing health challenges live their healthiest lives, supported by a caring community.

The Challenge We Face: Low health literacy is a critical barrier to equitable healthcare access and positive health outcomes. In the U.S., it can dramatically increase the risk of medical errors and even deaths. A 2016 Johns Hopkins study conservatively estimated 250,000 annual deaths due to medical errors, with a more realistic number being 440,000. These challenges disproportionately affect vulnerable and underserved communities, including disadvantaged patients of all ages, ethnic minorities, communities of color, populations with lower socioeconomic status, rural communities, people with cognitive and physical disabilities, and the LGBTQ+ community. Individuals with limited health literacy are significantly more likely to delay or forgo necessary medical care, struggle to find appropriate providers, and have difficulty understanding health information. This impacts timely entry into the healthcare system, hinders effective self-management of chronic conditions, and contributes to higher healthcare costs and preventable hospitalizations.

Your Critical Role in Our Healthcare Access Program: As a Healthcare Access Manager Volunteer, you'll be at the forefront of our efforts to confront this problem head-on. You'll play a pivotal role in expanding HHP's reach and ensuring our vital Healthcare Access Program empowers patients, especially those in underserved communities, with crucial health literacy skills.

Here's how you'll make an impact:

    • Strategic Partnership Development: You'll identify, research, and engage with potential new partner organizations, community clinics, support groups, and other non-profits that serve our target populations.

    • Program Outreach & Integration: You'll promote and integrate our Online Video Courses and Peer-Led Patient Advocacy Workshops within partner organizations, ensuring they reach those who need them most. Our ten comprehensive video courses cover essential topics like "Your Rights as a Patient," "Patient Empowerment," "Finding Credible Information Online," and "Preventing Medical Errors." Our successful workshops equip participants with practical skills to advocate for themselves.

    • Community Engagement: You'll help foster community engagement around our Peer-to-Peer Online Events, which have already reached over 1,000 attendees, focusing on shared learning and support for specific health challenges.

    • Relationship Management: You'll build and nurture strong, lasting relationships with new and existing partners, acting as a key ambassador for HHP.

    • Resource Coordination: You'll ensure our partners understand how to best utilize HHP's accessible, multilingual, and culturally relevant resources, including our incentivized gamification approach, aiming for a more health-literate and equitable community.

    • Reporting & Analysis: You'll help track outreach activities and partner engagements, contributing to reports on program impact and identifying areas for growth.

    • Advocacy Alignment: You'll work closely with other HHP volunteers and staff to ensure our healthcare access initiatives align with our broader advocacy goals.

    What We’re Looking For:

    • Unwavering Commitment: You are deeply committed to HHP's mission and believe passionately in equitable healthcare access and the power of health literacy.

    • Exceptional Communicator: You possess outstanding verbal and written communication skills, able to engage professionally and empathetically with diverse groups.

    • Highly Organized & Strategic: You're a natural organizer, detail-oriented, and can think strategically about outreach and partnership opportunities.

    • Proactive & Self-Motivated: You take initiative, identify needs, and drive projects forward with minimal supervision.

    • Relationship Builder: You excel at fostering trust and collaboration with various community and organizational stakeholders.

    • Tech Savvy: You're comfortable with G Suite (Google Docs, Sheets, Calendar, Forms) and potentially CRM software for tracking partnerships.

    • Reliable & Accountable: You are dependable and committed to fulfilling your responsibilities and meeting deadlines.

    • Experience (a plus!): Prior experience in community outreach, partnership management, program coordination, healthcare administration, public health, or social work is a significant advantage.

Time Commitment: Your hours will be flexible and depend on the specific projects and your availability. We'll work together to establish a schedule that fits your life while meeting the needs of this impactful role.

Why Volunteer with HHP as a Healthcare Access Manager?

    • Lead the Change: You'll be a key driver in HHP's vital work to bridge the health literacy gap and empower vulnerable communities.

    • High Impact: Your efforts will directly expand access to crucial health information and advocacy skills, potentially preventing medical errors and saving lives.

    • Skill Mastery: You'll gain invaluable experience in strategic partnership development, program management, community outreach, and health advocacy.

    • Expand Your Network: You'll connect with a diverse group of passionate volunteers, healthcare professionals, and community leaders.

    • Be a Champion: You'll play a crucial role in HHP's vision of a world where all people live their healthiest lives.

Are you ready to use your leadership and passion to empower individuals and transform healthcare access? Join HHP and make a tangible difference in the lives of underserved communities!
