    Description

SOCIAL VISITORS IN MEMORY CARE FACILITY OR HOME

Silverado Hospice has an ongoing need for volunteers to offer comfort and companionship during the end of life process. Volunteers act as an additional support system for patients and/or their families through the process. Simplistic, but important task such as caregiver relief, playing music quietly using a phone or instrument, reading poetry/scriptures, conversing with the patient, or sitting quietly while holding the hand of a patient are effective dignifying interactions. Volunteers will often sit with the patient/family anywhere from 1 to 2 hours on a weekly basis, or 2-4x per month. Additionally, volunteers will receive training so each volunteer can feel confident. Most of the patients are in a facility but some of them are also at home. We currently need volunters throughout Orange County and LA County, but more so the following cities:

    La Mirada

    Orange

    Brea

    San Juan Capistrano

    Dana Point

The volunteer opportunity is great for people who want to go into the medical field, mental health field, college students, Veterans, and anyone who wants to dedicate some time providing companionship and additional support to the hospice patients and their families.
