    Description

Volunteer Guides Needed to Bring Music to the Baltimore VA Medical Center!

Musicians On Call (MOC) is a nonprofit organization that brings live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients, families and caregivers in healthcare environments. You can help deliver the healing power of music in Baltimore at the Baltimore VA Medical Center!

Volunteer Guides escort Volunteer Musicians room to room as they play music for patients. The Volunteer Guide knocks on each hospital room door and asks patients if they feel like hearing music. They also introduce the Musician prior to their performance and guide them through the facility. Each Guide is assigned to a specific healthcare facility.

The Volunteer Guide is the "eyes and ears" during the MOC Bedside shift as well as the liaison between the hospital and the Volunteer Musician. Volunteer Guides know the protocols, policies and expectations of the healthcare facilities in which they volunteer and are responsible for making sure these guidelines are upheld during the shift. Volunteer Guides are critical to the success of MOC Bedside!

Volunteer Guide applicants must submit an audition video which will be evaluated for suitability prior to acceptance into the program. MOC’s certification process is as follows:

    • Volunteer Audition Video and Application
    • MOC Certification (includes Background check)
    • Shadowing an experienced Volunteer Guide at least twice

Volunteer Guides will become a badged volunteer at the facility. Each healthcare facility typically has additional requirements including a separate application, orientation, ID badge and immunizations like TB tests and/or flu/COVID shots. Volunteer Guides may be asked to submit their immunization records to the facility where they will be volunteering.
