Volunteer Position: Bookkeeper- Global

Location: Remote / Hybrid (with occasional in-person meetings as needed)
Time Commitment: 5–8 hours per week
Reports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO) / Director of Operations

Position Overview
The Volunteer Bookkeeper plays an essential role in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring the organization’s financial integrity. Working under the guidance of the CFO or Director of Operations, this volunteer will assist with day-to-day bookkeeping tasks, data entry, and financial reporting to support grant management, donations, and overall transparency.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, trustworthy, and passionate about supporting nonprofit financial sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Recordkeeping
- Record all financial transactions including donations, expenses, and reimbursements.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date ledgers, journals, and accounts.
- Reconcile bank and credit card statements on a regular basis.
- Reporting & Documentation
- Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for leadership and the board.
- Help organize financial data for grant reporting, audits, and tax filings.
- Maintain digital files of receipts, invoices, and financial documents.
- Budget & Grant Support
- Support the CFO in tracking grant funds, budgets, and restricted accounts.
- Ensure financial entries align with donor and funder reporting requirements.
- Help monitor spending to maintain compliance with nonprofit guidelines.
- Collaboration & Systems
- Work with the HR and Operations teams to process volunteer reimbursements and stipends.
- Use accounting software such as QuickBooks, Wave, or Excel/Google Sheets to maintain records.
- Suggest improvements to streamline financial systems and accuracy.
Qualifications
- Experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or nonprofit financial management preferred.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks, Excel, or similar financial software.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality.
- Understanding of basic accounting principles (GAAP preferred).
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Passion for WOCOTM’s mission of empowerment and equity.
