    About Mentor A Promise

Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability in New York City. Through mentorship, academic enrichment, literacy development, social-emotional learning, housing initiatives, and creative expression, MAP creates safe, consistent, and empowering spaces where young people can thrive.

As part of this mission, MAP is building digital tools that connect students, families, and mentors with resources, mentorship, and opportunities. The Project Manager for the App Team will play a critical role in leading mobile app development projects that are intuitive, reliable, and performance-driven.

    Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Project Manager to lead the App Development Team in delivering mobile applications that support MAP’s mission. This role involves guiding the full project lifecycle, from requirements gathering to deployment, while working closely with designers, developers, and QA engineers. The Project Manager will ensure that apps meet usability, performance, and compliance standards, while keeping stakeholders informed and aligned.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead planning and execution of mobile app projects from requirements gathering to deployment
    • Collaborate with designers and developers to ensure UI/UX consistency and app usability
    • Define clear milestones, manage sprint cycles, and monitor progress using project management tools
    • Coordinate API integrations, mobile testing (unit, UI, beta), and bug tracking
    • Ensure apps are optimized for performance, scalability, and App Store/Play Store compliance
    • Provide regular updates to stakeholders on project timelines, risks, and dependencies
    • Oversee post-launch support, feature updates, and enhancements
    • Check and respond to emails daily, ensuring all responses are completed within 48 hours
    • Take responsibility for performance improvement by identifying bottlenecks and strengthening team workflows

    Qualifications

    • Proven experience managing mobile app development projects
    • Familiarity with iOS/Android ecosystems, React Native, Flutter, and API integrations
    • Strong background collaborating with UI/UX design teams and mobile engineers
    • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodology and app release cycles
    • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and leadership skills
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities

    Commitment

    • Volunteer leadership role requiring approximately 5–10 hours per week
    • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
    • Remote-first, with optional in-person collaboration in New York City

    What You Will Gain

    • Leadership experience managing app development for a mission-driven nonprofit
    • Hands-on involvement with cutting-edge mobile technologies
    • Collaboration with designers, developers, and engineers in a cross-functional team
    • Professional references, mentorship, and portfolio projects for career advancement
    • The opportunity to create technology that connects underserved communities with vital resources
