We’re seeking compassionate volunteers to spend time with a friendly elder in Des Moines who is navigating a bit of confusion and agitation around his current living situation. He dreams of returning to his independent apartment and would benefit greatly from kind, steady volunteer companionship.
Despite the challenges, he lights up when talking about his children and grandchildren. He has a rich life story—once an avid athlete who played football, baseball, and volleyball, and a traveler who’s explored states like Florida, Alabama, and Washington. He enjoys fishing, playing pool, listening to music, and dancing.
Your presence can make a real difference. Whether it’s sharing stories, enjoying music together, or simply being a calming presence, your time can bring comfort and joy.

Providence Elder Place Volunteer Onboarding Process:
- Complete a comprehensive background check
- Complete a health screen test conducted by Providence
- Attend a 15–30-minute Virtual Meet & Greet session via Microsoft Teams, to be scheduled by the Volunteer Coordinator. Time availability will be requested after application submission.
