    Description

Are you an experienced content strategist looking to lead storytelling efforts for a mission-driven organization? Statistics Without Borders (SWB) is seeking a volunteer Content Lead to help shape and execute our content strategy, develop compelling narratives, and manage our owned digital channels. This is a leadership role within the SWB Marketing and Communications team, working collaboratively with the broader MarComm team.

    Who We Are

Founded in 2008, SWB is an all-volunteer outreach group of the American Statistical Association. We provide pro bono analytics and data science expertise to nonprofits and NGOs worldwide.

Our mission is to advance humanity by partnering with social impact organizations to enhance their capacity for data-driven decision-making. We envision a world where every community has access to the statistical and related expertise needed to solve society’s toughest challenges.

In 2024 alone, we completed 67 projects for 59 clients in 26 countries—from creating dashboards to support humanitarian aid to training teams in data analysis for urban policy.

With a global team of 5,000+ volunteers across 6 continents, all united by one goal: using data to drive impact.

    What You’ll Do

    • Co-lead the development and implementation of SWB’s content strategy.
    • Oversee the planning, creation, and publishing of content across our owned channels (e.g., blog, social media, newsletters).
    • Manage a distributed team of volunteer writers, designers, and video editors—providing assignments, editorial feedback, and deadlines.
    • Maintain and update the content calendar to ensure consistent storytelling aligned with our brand and mission.
    • Ensure all content is accurate, on-brand, and accessible for our diverse audiences.
    • Collaborate with project leads and volunteers to surface stories that showcase our work and impact.

    What We’re Looking For

    • Experience leading content strategy, editorial, or storytelling initiatives—preferably in nonprofit, agency, or mission-driven settings.
    • Strong writing and editing skills.
    • Ability to build and manage a distributed creative team, including assigning, reviewing, and elevating volunteer work.
    • Comfortable using digital tools like Canva, social media schedulers, and CMS platforms.
    • Organized and proactive in managing deadlines and editorial processes.
    • Familiarity with SEO, brand voice, and content planning best practices is a plus.
    • Bonus: experience in video, design, or social media engagement strategy.

Whether you're a content strategist looking for a mission-driven leadership opportunity, or an experienced writer looking to shape how a global nonprofit tells its story, this is your chance to make a meaningful impact.
