St. Hubert’s is getting ready to launch the next session of our Youth Task Force https://www.sthuberts.org/youth-task-force. The task force is composed of teenagers (15 -17 years old) who volunteer in teams to provide one on one attention to shelter animals. The teens will be trained in safe cat and dog handling as well as social media promotion of pets, fundraising for specific shelter needs, and writing feedback notes.
We are currently looking for adult volunteers who would be interested in working with the youth during their weekly shifts. You would serve as a mentor to the youth volunteers, guiding them into safely interacting with shelter dogs and cats. This would also entail taking the dogs out of the kennels and bringing them to the play yards where the students will interact and socialize with them. Basic understanding of dog body language and experience and comfort handling large (45 lbs.+), energetic dogs required. Basic knowledge of cat body language is also required. This is a great opportunity if you enjoy working with teenagers and want to support their advocacy for animals.
We ask that adult volunteers commit two shifts per month (Spring session: February-June, Fall session: September-January).
Available shifts:
Weekdays, 4:00 - 6:00 pm
Weekends, 11:00am-1:00pm
