    Description

    Position Overview

The Decolonizing Research Fellow will support the Peace Economy Project (PEP) in challenging dominant frameworks of knowledge production and promoting inclusive, justice-centered approaches to policy, history, and advocacy. This fellow will explore how colonial legacies and power structures shape military policy, economic inequality, and narratives of security, and will help develop research and educational materials that reflect marginalized perspectives.

This is an ideal opportunity for a critically engaged researcher who is passionate about anti-colonial movements, peacebuilding, and structural transformation in both research practice and public discourse.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct research on the intersections of colonialism, militarization, economic injustice, and peacebuilding.
    • Assist in developing frameworks and content that center Indigenous, Black, Global South, and other historically marginalized voices.
    • Review existing PEP materials (reports, briefs, curriculum) and recommend ways to reframe language and analysis through a decolonial lens.
    • Support the production of educational content such as:
      • Issue briefs or zines on decolonial resistance to militarism
      • Webinar or workshop modules on decolonizing peace advocacy
      • Annotated bibliographies of decolonial scholarship
    • Collaborate with fellows in areas such as climate justice, youth advocacy, and narrative strategy to ensure aligned, equity-driven storytelling.

    Qualifications

    • Current undergraduate, graduate student, or recent graduate in fields such as Ethnic Studies, Global Studies, Political Science, History, Anthropology, Peace & Conflict Studies, or related disciplines.
    • Familiarity with decolonial theory, critical race theory, feminist theory, or Indigenous studies.
    • Strong writing and research skills; ability to synthesize complex and sensitive issues with nuance.
    • Experience working with or advocating alongside marginalized communities is highly valued.
    • Commitment to collaborative, reflective, and transformative learning and organizing.

    What You’ll Gain

    • Experience applying decolonial frameworks to nonprofit research and advocacy.
    • Mentorship and professional development in intersectional peacebuilding.
    • Opportunities to publish public-facing work and co-lead educational programming.
    • A meaningful role in helping reshape narratives, policies, and practices that influence peace and security.
    • Letters of recommendation and support for academic or professional advancement.
