Join us in our Cemetery Reclamation efforts as a volunteer to research the genealogy of past patients buried in the Columbus State Hospital cemetery. Why is this important? Many of the grave markers are inscribed only with a patient number and a gender identifier of "m" or "f" on concrete markers. The reasons for this method of inscription are unknown.
As we progress in our reclamation efforts, our goal is to provide respectful recognition to those interred in this cemetery beyond their patient numbers and gender. We will research the biographies of each patient buried here using publicly available information to tell their stories. There are close to 800 interments to research, dated from 1922 to 1976. Although this can be a virtual volunteer opportuntity, some in-person orientation and quarterly meetings are sheduled.
