    Nonprofit Net of Greater Boston Board Member Position Description

    Opportunity to Make a Difference

    Role and Responsibilities

    As a member of the board of directors for our nonprofit organization, you will play a critical role in guiding our mission, ensuring financial health, and establishing a strategic direction for the organization. Board members are expected to:

    • Attend and actively participate in bi-monthly board meetings.
    • Provide oversight and strategic guidance for the organization’s programs and initiatives.
    • Act as an ambassador for the organization in the community and help to enhance its public image.
    • Assist in the development and implementation of the organization’s fundraising strategies
    • Review and approve the annual budget, financial reports, and significant organizational decisions.
    • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
    • Participate in committees or task forces and take on special assignments.
    • Maintain confidentiality about all internal matters of the organization.

    Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

    • Passion for the mission of the nonprofit organization.
    • Previous experience in nonprofit governance or leadership roles preferred.
    • Strong understanding of financial statements and budgeting processes.
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
    • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.
    • Capability to contribute to the organization’s fundraising efforts.
    • Willingness to dedicate time and effort to the board’s activities and responsibilities.

    Time Commitment

    Board members are expected to commit approximately 4-8 hours per month to board meetings, committee participation, and other organizational activities. More hours if you have an interest in participating as an executive coach under the Leadership Acceleration Program (LAP).

    Term Limits

    Board members will serve a term of two years, with the possibility of renewal for a second term based on performance and mutual agreement. Written notice of a minimum of 60 days is required for resignation before term ends.
