    Description

Help at Brooklyn farmstands: Fight health disparities/for food justice

Help us a community-run farm and flea markets and help us sustainably challenge food insecurity. We work at schools mainly and need help 1-5pm on weekday afternoons and Saturdays at the Seeds in the Middle Action Spot at 318 Rogers Ave., Brooklyn!

Yes, we give community service credits!

Did you know Black and Latino residents have the highest rates of diabetes, obesity, heart disease and live in neighborhoods known as "food deserts" - food-insecure, low-income areas with chronic lack of fresh fruits and vegetables?

Fight for equal access to fresh food for all, with us. Help us challenge these terrible statistics by helping all get healthy and do well in school because they have nutrients! Fresh fruits and vegetables

Help us at our farm stands in central Brooklyn. This can be virtual or on-site and you can do healthy cooking, too!

We need volunteer help a few days a week in central Brooklyn - Flatbush, Brownsville, Crown Heights, Coney Island, east Flatbush, Bed-Stuy.

See our schools and sites at this map link:

Please let us know if you can help out and just give us your hours. We also have virtual work. Hours can be anywhere from 10 am - 7 pm

Most of our markets are after-school so we need shifts from 1-5pm - 1:30 to set up and 5pm to break down. You work directly with students.

In some cases, we are doing free giveways also. Yes - you can offer just once or twice although we prefer to train you to help out over a few weeks. Markets run March to end of June.

Where are our markets? See bit.ly/seedsinthemiddlemap

Days - Monday through Friday - Brooklyn neighborhoods and also lower East Side.

    • SATURDAYS - at the SPOT, 318 Rogers Ave, at Montgomery and maybe other days. 11
    • DELIVERY - CAN HAVE CAR OR BIKE, OR JUST LIVE NEARBY AND WALK!

When? Shifts vary but mostly like this: WE ALSO WILL weekend pop-ups

10-12 - set up (good if you can lift)

12-5:30 - any two hours to help deliver, give out, put up or give out posters and flyers nearby

4-7 pm: Help us break down (good if you can lift tables.

    Delivery help needed, too.

We need other help at our other farm stands...

Email us what you can do at info@seedsinthemiddle.org

Fill out the volunteer form here at bit.ly/seedsvolunteersignup

Help us build more farm stands in food deserts. Tell us what you can do.

Help us at our GARDENS also.

VIRTUAL : Can you help us also with getting flyers out, or publicizing the markets? Calling locals to come and remind them to come? Please let us know - this can be virtual.

And we need help fundraising for these initiatives. You can help us with Tastes of Brooklyn or our current online fundraisers.

Tell us about you and your background. Write us an email and tell us about you. Only write if you are committed to giving at least 3 hours.
