    Description

Goodwill of Southwestern PA is looking for individuals who enjoy helping others to make an impact in the adult learning community by working one-on-one with adult students that are working towards completing their high school equivalency diplomas.
Hi there! We have some students in our high school equivalency diploma (GED) program who need help to pass their Social Studies exams. It could be a minimum of 3 hours (2 sessions of 1.5 hours) or up to 4 hours each week.
If you have experience teaching basic Civics, Government, U.S. History, World Geography, & Economics skills, please reach out and we can talk more! If you don't have experience with this but are comfortable teaching someone these basic skills and believe you have the patience to work with an adult learner who struggles with these skills, please reach out.

To help one of these students, you'd first fill out a volunteer application, meet with me briefly on Zoom to go over things, complete a free and quick PA criminal background check, and then we'd help you to learn about what students need to know for this exam. Once you're prepped, you could meet with the student on Zoom. Support is always available from me, the Volunteer Coordinator, and from our adult education instructors.

Six-month commitment minimum please. Our volunteers do take time off here and there for trips they take, vacation, holidays, etc, but overall, 3-4 hours per week on average is required. Thank you for considering this opportunity!

Interested individuals are encouraged to apply through this listing. If you have any questions, you can contact me, Ashley Reilly, Education Volunteer Coordinator, by text at 412-498-0412 or by email at ashley.reilly@goodwillswpa.org
NOTE: We can only use volunteers who reside in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland.
