YOU CAN HELP increase access to medical equipment and supplies while reducing unnecessary environmental waste. How? Come volunteer at ReCARES in Oakland!
Low-income families often must prioritize between paying for food, rent, prescription medications, and incontinence supplies for their senior family members. If they must suddenly cover the costs of a wheelchair, a walker, or other home-care equipment to assist a loved one dealing with health challenges, it can be disastrous. ReCARES often can help.
Medical equipment and supplies (from bath equipment to diapers) that survive a loved one who has passed often sit uselessly in landfills and garages. Surviving family members wondering what to do with them can bring them to ReCARES for redistribution.
ReCARES in Oakland open site hours are every Friday from 12-4 pm. Stop by and meet the Site Manager, Jordan, so that he can introduce you to the site operations and let you know how to best be of service at the site. The site is busy and often serves around 100 people during the open hours--some visitors coming to donate and help eliminate waste and others coming to get what they need.
*Previous medical training/knowledge NOT required, but helpful. You can come and learn! Knowledge of languages other than English, especially Mandarin, Cantonese, and Spanish, is welcome.
