    The Role: DevOps Engineer

    Conditions:

    • Location: Remote
    • Commitment: Part-time (volunteer, pro bono role)
    • Contribution Requirements: Minimum 10-15 hours a week; minimum 6 months.

    What Will You Do?

    Automation Development & Maintenance:

    • Building and Maintaining CI/CD Pipelines: Designing, implementing, and maintaining automated Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Delivery/Deployment (CD) pipelines. This involves automating the build, test, and deployment processes to ensure rapid and reliable software releases.

    Infrastructure as Code (IaC):

    • Using tools like Terraform, Ansible, Chef, or Puppet to provision and manage infrastructure (servers, networks, databases, etc.) programmatically, ensuring consistency and repeatability.
    • Scripting and Tooling: Developing scripts (e.g., Python, Bash) and custom tools to automate repetitive tasks and integrate various systems.

    Infrastructure Management:

    • Provisioning and Management: Setting up, configuring, and managing the underlying cloud-based (AWS, Azure, GCP) infrastructure.
    • Containerization and Orchestration: Working with container technologies like Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes to package applications and manage their deployment and scaling.
    • System Administration: Possessing a strong understanding of operating systems, networking, and security to manage systems effectively.

    Release Management:

    • Deployment Strategies: Defining and implementing effective deployment strategies, including blue-green deployments, canary releases, and rolling updates, to minimize downtime and risk.
    • Version Control: Managing source code using version control systems (e.g., Git) and ensuring proper branching and merging strategies.

    Security (DevSecOps):

    • Integrating Security: Incorporating security practices and tools throughout the entire software development lifecycle, from code scanning to vulnerability assessments and compliance.
    • Implementing Security Controls: Ensuring that appropriate security measures are in place for infrastructure and applications.

    Who Are We Looking For?

    • Experienced DevOps Professionals: You bring at least 5 years of experience, with a strong background in designing, implementing, and maintaining automated Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Delivery/Deployment (CD) pipelines.
    • Cross-Cultural Communicators: You know how to communicate across diverse teams, time zones, and stakeholder groups.
    • Commitment to Impact: Driven by the mission to use design as a tool for social impact.
