    Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability in New York City. Through mentorship, social-emotional learning, academic enrichment, and creative expression, we create safe, consistent, and empowering spaces for young people to grow, thrive, and succeed.

    Role Overview

    We are seeking a Volunteer Senior Instructional Designer to lead the design and development of MAP’s educational programs. This role will oversee volunteer instructional designers, guide curriculum development, and ensure that all learning materials reflect best practices in accessibility, equity, and student-centered design. The ideal candidate is an experienced instructional designer and team leader who is passionate about using education to close opportunity gaps.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead the design and development of MAP’s instructional content and curricula
    • Supervise and mentor volunteer instructional designers, ensuring high-quality deliverables
    • Collaborate with educators, program staff, and subject matter experts to shape learning experiences
    • Ensure all materials are trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and accessible (WCAG, UDL standards)
    • Oversee the development of mentor training, student programs, and family workshops
    • Build feedback and assessment systems to measure program impact
    • Contribute to long-term curriculum strategy and innovation at MAP

    Qualifications

    • Extensive experience in instructional design, curriculum development, or education leadership
    • Strong portfolio of designed learning materials (digital or classroom-based)
    • Proficiency with instructional design tools (Articulate, Captivate, Canva, Google Classroom, or similar)
    • Knowledge of social-emotional learning (SEL), trauma-informed practices, and inclusive design
    • Proven leadership and team management skills
    • Excellent writing, communication, and organizational abilities
    • Commitment to MAP’s mission and values

    Preferred Skills

    • Experience leading instructional design in K–12 or nonprofit contexts
    • Familiarity with e-learning platforms, LMS systems, and blended learning models
    • Research experience in education, pedagogy, or curriculum innovation
    • Ability to facilitate workshops or trainings for staff and volunteers

    Commitment

    • Volunteer role, approximately 7–10 hours per week
    • Flexible scheduling with occasional coordination for workshops and program launches
