    Description

    Hospice Veteran Volunteer

1 out of every 4 dying Americans is a Veteran, and we believe it is never too late to honor those who have served us. Join our team of We Honor Veteran Volunteers who offer a final tribute to our nation's heroes.

We Honor Veteran Volunteers provide recognition to hospice patients wherever they call home. This may be a skilled nursing facility, or a private residence. They affirm and honor life through a special pinning ceremony in which the volunteer presents the patient with an American Flag lapel pin, and a framed certificate of appreciation.

Each pinning ceremony, which is led by the hospice staff, is unique however in most cases the time of recognition will also include:

    • time of sharing stories by the patient and family
    • a patriotic sing along
    • words of appreciation and gratitude

We care for patients in the eleven county metro area, allowing you to serve in the location that works best for you. Pinning ceremonies are held on week days between the hours of 8:30am-5pm, and you are notified of the specific date and time several days prior to the event. We do request a time commitment of 25 volunteer hours a year.

Not sure you’re qualified for this role? No problem. The journey to working with patients who have a limited life expectancy, and their family members requires careful preparation. That is why we have an extensive online training program designed to prepare you for the experiences ahead. The convenience of online learning allows you to access the information anytime, anywhere, and to work at your own pace.

We believe it is a gift to serve and honor veterans at this sacred time. If you feel called to this meaningful volunteer opportunity, we'd love to hear from you.
