    Description

    Community Stakeholder

    Community mentors (or stakeholders) participate in Restorative Justice group-dialogue sessions to address public safety issues.

    SCVRS is looking for parents, teachers, emergency service workers, and anyone concerned with public safety issues. We work with a prevention, intervention and reintegration model to address crime and conflict. Central topics include:

    * Underage drinking

    * Impaired and distracted driving

    * Alcohol and controlled substance use and abuse

    * Disorderly and disruptive behavior

    * Theft, vandalism and other property crimes

    Our volunteers engage in a dialogue process as community representatives. Sessions are nonjudgmental, offering all participants equal opportunity to share their experiences and engage in the process. Volunteer stakeholders are asked to role model session behavior and share the impact of crime and conflict on the community, with a focus on committing to better, safer decision-making.

    Training is provided by staff and through mentorship with other volunteers. Regular meetings are offered for further discussion about relevant topics and support for developing speakers.
