    SF Public LIbrary: DIY DigiLab Assistant

    With supervision from a Digitization Projects Librarian, the volunteer DIY Digi Lab Assistant will help library patrons to digitize their personal photographs, slides, negatives, audio and videotapes and 8mm and Super8 films.

    Lab Assistants will:

    • set up and break down Labs before and after each session.
    • provide an orientation to the Lab to new users.
    • troubleshoot technical issues that arise.
    • answer questions and offer assistance as needed.
    • advise on time management for the 3-hour appointment.

    Qualifications include:

    • Experience with PCs and/or Mac computers.
    • Experience with or ability to learn about old analog audio and video formats and playback equipment.
    • Experience with or ability to learn about scanning photographs, slides and negatives.
    • Experience with or interest in helping people one-on-one.
    • Ability to work while being interrupted intermittently.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Interest in technical troubleshooting.
    • Ability to speak Spanish or Chinese is useful but not required.

    Volunteers will shadow a librarian until they are able to facilitate sessions independently. If interested, volunteers may receive lab time credits for their own projects commensurate with time volunteered.
