    Description

Caregiver Relief and Friendly Visitor Volunteer - Corewell Health Hospice West Michigan

The application process and online training component must be completed to be eligible to register for the in-person orientation.

Respite Care, or Caregiver Relief is offering the gift of time to family members of patients in hospice who face the ever-present challenge of caregiving. Hospice caregiver volunteers offer short-term (2-4 hours) respite care to patients allowing caregivers to take a break, run errands, get groceries, nap, etc. by staying in the home with the patient, so they caregiver can take a break knowing their loved one is in the company of a caring hospice volunteer.

Friendly Visiting Volunteering is offering the gift of time and presence for patients facing the end of life. This type of support brings hope, diversion and connection to patients who may be limited in having contact with others during this critical time in their life.

Hospice friendly visitors provide care through companionship to patients by being present, listening, and engaging in light activities such as reading to the patient, playing games, and conversation.

Volunteers especially needed in Ada, Big Rapids, Caledonia, Fremont, Grand Rapids, Grandville, Holland, Lowell, Middleville, Newaygo, Rockford, and Sparta areas. Note: Volunteers are asked to wait one year after the death of a family member or friend before volunteering.

We offer a flexible Volunteer Orientation program!

Our training program format will allow candidates to complete some of the required training thru an on-line program at your convenience and provide additional times and locations for the in-person training component. The goal is to shorten the on-boarding process and add more flexibility in the training process making it easier for interested individuals to join our volunteer program.

We will work with you to help you join our volunteer program and start supporting patients thru out our 11 county service area!
