Join the BtB Team!

Behind the Book (BtB) inspires young people to cultivate their vast potential through programs centered on diverse books and their authors. We work with K–12 students from Title I schools and low-income communities, fostering motivation to read and empowering students’ voices through the transformative power of storytelling.

About Book Bash

Book Bash is Behind the Book’s annual community celebration where students, families, volunteers, and authors come together to celebrate literacy. The event includes story times, creative activities, and book giveaways.

Event Date: Thursday, October 30, 2025 | 1:00–6:00 PM

Location: Behind the Book Office, 216 W 135th St, New York, NY 10030

Volunteer Roles

Volunteers help bring Book Bash to life by:

• Assisting with setup and cleanup
• Greeting families and guests
• Running literacy-based activity tables
• Distributing free books
• Supporting authors and staff throughout the event

This is a fun, high-energy volunteer opportunity where you’ll connect with students, authors, and community members while supporting literacy in NYC.

If you’d like to help us prepare for the big day, we’d love your support during:

All prep sessions take place at our Harlem office.

How to Sign Up

Please check off all the times you are available to volunteer, you may select more than one slot. We’ll do our best to match your availability with event needs. Once confirmed, you’ll receive an email with your assigned shift and details.
