    Description

    Companionship Volunteers Needed!

Many older adults in our community experience deep loneliness and isolation. For some, days pass without a single personal interaction. Island Volunteer Caregivers (IVC) is in urgent need of Companionship Volunteers - caring individuals who can visit just once a week or even once a month to bring connection, comfort, and joy.

IVC volunteers serve with open hearts and a shared desire to give back. They often become a consistent presence in the lives of those they support, forming meaningful relationships built on empathy, trust, and shared stories. These relationships are deeply reciprocal - care receivers feel seen and valued, and volunteers often discover unexpected purpose and joy.

Ways You Can Help as an IVC Volunteer:

    • Offer companionship to someone who is isolated
    • Provide respite for family caregivers
    • Drive someone to medical or essential appointments
    • Help with errands or grocery shopping
    • Visit a museum, take a walk, or play cards together
    • Assist with light housekeeping or simple yardwork
    • Offer medical note-taking support
    • Help care for a pet or write letters
    • Call regularly to check in and provide reassurance
    • Support IVC’s office work, fundraising, or events

Whether it’s sharing a story, preparing a light meal, or simply sitting together in conversation, your presence can make all the difference.
