    Description

    The Exhibit Guide Program supports the Zoo’s educational and interpretive needs in specific areas within the Zoo.Exhibit Guides initially are in the ProMedica Museum of Natural History.Optional additional trainings are available for the Aquarium and Reptile Areas such as Galapagos Tortoise.

    Exhibit Guides are stationed at specific exhibits to provide interpretation and guest interaction, including, but not limited to:

    • Deliver brief planned interpretive talks.
    • Support operation of interactive exhibits such as touch tanks while educating visitors about the animals, answer questions and maintain a safe and positive environment for both animals and visitors.
    • Engage visitors in conversations about our animals and conservation.
    • Answer visitor questions about the animals, programs and facilities.
    • Utilize animal artifacts in related areas to enhance visitor experiences.
    • Provide support to our visitors throughout the Zoo including answering questions, providing directions to exhibits and facilities, and contacting Zoo Staff when needed.

    Training

    Training is a half day orientation that includes the volunteer handbook, techniques to engage guests, and responsibilities. Initial areas will include opportunities in the Museum and Aquarium.

    After completing 15 hours of volunteering, additional trainings will be available. After 30 hours of volunteering, additional areas will be available in addition to opportunities to mentor new Exhibit Guides.

    Requirements

    • Must be at least 18 years of age
    • Complete the required training program
    • Give at least 18 hours of service, every 3 months
    • Schedule volunteer time in advance
    • Inform the Education Department if you can not make a scheduled shift
